Get Started Studying

All players should attend as many practices and tournaments as they can. You can also check out team-made study materials on this page. Depending on your goals on the team, here are some other ways to prepare outside of practice:

Goal: “A” Team

Varsity players on the A team represent the most competitive team Winnebago can put together. These players are aiming to compete at national championship tournaments; earn trophies at the IHSA State Championship Tournament; and win the Big Northern Conference Varsity Division.

Competition at this level requires work outside of practice, both individually and with your team. A Varsity A Team player must show mastery of a major category (history, literature, or science) and competence in at least one minor category (fine arts, belief systems, philosophy, social sciences, geography, or math). Varsity A Team players must also need to be familiar with the play styles and practices of their teammates. To accomplish these two things, you can:

Goal: “B” Team

B Team players play often, but may not feel as drawn to strong competition as A Team players. A Varsity B Team player should have a good understanding of a major category (history, literature, or science) and some familiarity with at least one minor category (fine arts, belief systems, philosophy, social sciences, geography, or math). To improve your skills, you can:

Players who want to have fun with quiz bowl are always welcome! These players might not get active playing time in post-season games, but have many opportunities to enjoy the game and help the team by moderating, scorekeeping, helping friends study, and being a part of the team.
